If the bike is new, I don't think you should be putting up with any 'constant ticking' - the warranty is there for a reason!
I recently bought an '86 with 23k, and do get some ticking when the engine is thoroughly warmed up - ie after a good hard run. But even that is intermittent...and I've been wondering if it's cause for concern.
